Setting Up A Webhook Trigger

Learn how to use a webhook trigger to initiate a Lindy workflow in less 2 minutes.

Lindy supports over 3,000 integrations out of the box. However, if you want Lindy to be triggered by any custom API call, you can use the Webhook Trigger.

Setting Up a Webhook Trigger

To get started, click the plus sign beside Lindies to start building your Lindy.

Click "Start from scratch" to create a new Lindy.

Add the Webhook Trigger

Triggers are events that “wake up” a Lindy. Examples include time-based triggers (e.g., every weekday at 9 am) or event-based triggers (e.g., when you receive an email).

A single Lindy can have multiple triggers, either managing different workflows, or acting as entry points into the same workflow.

You can apply filters to your triggers to reduce costs and ensure all workflows are initiated by desired events.

Click “Select Trigger”, then search "Webhook" and select the "Webhook Received" trigger.

Create a New Webhook

In the New Webhook Recieved trigger configuration, click "Select an option" and "Create new".

Create a name for your webhook, hit the enter key to save and select the webhook.

After creating the webhook link, generate a secret key by clicking the “Generate Secret” button.

A secret key ensures that unauthorized parties are not allowed to hit the webhook. You will need to pass the secret key in your request’s authorization header every time you want to hit the webhook.

Copy your secret key and save it in a safe place for later use. Lindy will never show the same secret key again.

Copy the webhook address to your clipboard and save it with your secret key.

Referencing Information Received via Webhook

Once you have created your Webhook trigger, you can reference the data received by using an "AI Prompt" or referencing the trigger output data directly.

Referencing Through a Prompt

In any of the steps following the Webhook trigger, you can switch the parameter field to "AI Prompt" mode and reference the Webhook data in natural language.

Example prompt below:

Document the name, role and "need" from the webhook data you received

Referencing The Request Body

To have Lindy refer to the exact Webhook body received, you can reference the trigger output data directly.

To do this, set the parameter field to "AI Prompt" and click the request.body option from the Webhook Received trigger data.

Testing Your Webhook

Make a post request to the webhook address you copied to your clipboard and see the magic happen in Lindy!

Remember to add your secret key as an authorization header. The key-value pair should be formatted as “Authorization: Bearer [secret key]”.

You can see in the Lindy's task view the Webhook's received Body and how Lindy completed the Content field of the Create Document action, using the data received from the Webhook.

Callback Requests

To send a response back to the original request, you can use the 'Send POST Request to Callback’ action.
